What is EMR?

Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) or Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMF) are a field of study commonly found in physics and now within medicine. These waves are emitted from various sources and have different effects depending upon their strength, wavelength and the matter they come into contact with. These waves are powerful and carry great momentum and electromagnetic radiant energy which can travel through many mediums including the body. However, with an increase in technology and our dependency to it, these waves are evermore present in our lives. Essentially, we are bathing in them.

Too much of anything is not good for anyone, especially when it comes to these silent, harmful EM waves.

So, what is Electrosensitivity?

Electrosensitivity is a condition in which individuals are sensitive to Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMF), also known as Electromagnetic Waves (EMW). These waves are emitted by various standard devices, such as Baby MonitorsPhonesLaptopsSmart MetersHeadphonesWiFi routers, and more.

Today, with the increase in dependency and usage of these devices, we are more likely to be affected by EMFs. Although many of us may think we don’t feel them or that they don’t exist, have you ever stopped and asked yourself where that neck pain first thing in the morning comes from? Or that headache from staring at the screen too long? Often, these EMFs are the leading triggers of our body’s daily paindiscomfort, or tension.

Globally Conducted Research

World Health Organisation (WHO)

Several global scientific institutions, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), have extensively researched EMFs. This research, which has been ongoing for several decades, has found evidence of both positive and negative effects of EMFs. While EMFs have some beneficial applications, such as in medical imaging, there is also evidence of their negative health impacts on the environment and the human body.

Research conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has found evidence of connections between EMF and cancer. This global recognition of the negative health impacts of EMF validates the concerns many of us have.

National Research Institute (NIH)

A 1950 review established by the National Institute of Public Health (NIH)—National Research Institute discusses the impact of ‘Radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation from WiFi and its effects on human health, in particular children and adolescents’.

International Research

Studies have shown there are negative impacts on human reproductive health. According to Singh et al., several in vitro studies have reported that Radio Frequency Radiation (RFR)  induces various types of cancer and DNA or chromosomal damage.

Further research has been conducted on the possible interaction of EMF with human organs, such as the brain, which currently receives the most attention. Many studies have shown that the nervous system is a vital target organ sensitive to EMF.
